“”And finally, bird-watchers everywhere have reported that the nation’s owls have been behaving very unusually today. Although owls normally hunt at night and are hardly ever seen in daylight, there have been hundreds of sightings of these birds flying in every direction since sunrise.””

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, J.K. Rowling 1997

Artist Statement:

These books began appearing at the perfect time for my family.  Harry and crew were similar ages as my daughters.  We read them together.  We read them apart.  Someone was always picking up the book as mom, dad, daughter, sister would put it down.  This went on with every succeeding book.  I just imagined this going on in houses everywhere.  Everyone reading the same book at the same time.  What an idea.  What an accomplishment.  I imagine this was a little like what is was to read the Dickens installments.  I had to paint this book.  This series created such a wonderful world.  Good wizards and evil ones.  Growing up in this world is tough enough without going through the personal growth as well.  It mimicked the family even though we’re still waiting for our wands to be chosen, or the owls to drop by with a message.    January 2015
